For the last 5 years Car Photographer Tim Wallace has been involved in the annual Aston Calendar for our UK client. These have in recent years become a collectors item with sales of the Calendar reaching all across the globe from China to the US. Each year Tim starts work on this project as we enter the early part of the year to allow him to start to build up a body of work that not only inspires and captures the heart of the Aston Martin brand but also takes the work through the different seasons of the year.
The Calendar will be in design in August and we hope to have it ready for shipping Worldwide by the end of October. As with all the Aston Calendar work that Tim produces, it will be available to purchase as a limited edition signed print exclusively through our clients art site following the release of the 2013 edition.
Kelby in the US this week launched the 4th and final video in the series of films that car photographer Tim Wallace created in the US with them recently. This forth video looks in depth at the post production side of car photography and takes an image from class number 3 where Tim worked in nothing more than available light and looks at how we can adjust and improve that image to really bring it to life and add some drama and impact. Tim also looks at some further techniques and talks through how he not only approaches his post production work but also points out a few things along the way that photographers should be thinking about regarding their work all the way back to the point that they are taking the image with the final edit in mind.
All the classes have been receiving excellent feedback as photographers and keen amateurs around the World follow the series on Kelby Training.
“Congratulations once again on your classes Tim, people are absolutely loving them, and so am I, big time!
I really love your teaching style, and you come across great on camera. You sir, rock!

The Wallace Classes Available on Kelby
The four classes that are online with Kelby Training from AmbientLife are;
1. How to light a car using multiple lights
2. Lighting a car and shooting detail with just one light
3. Shooting cars with only available light
4. Photoshop techniques for Car Photographers.
Behind the scenes during the US filming
All of the filming took place in Ybor near Tampa Florida at a location known as ‘The Trolley Barn’, a location made famous in its use during the filming of ‘The Punisher’ a few years ago. October in Florida is still pretty hot and during our first week the weather was indeed very humid with the whole team really feeling that heat inside the barn. Our choice of cars over the term of the shooting was a Ford Mustang V6, a Dodge Challenger, and a Cadillac CTS.
If you would like to watch how we worked with these cars and made the best use of our lighting then please join us online at Kelby Training where you can review and enjoy all 4 video classes, each of which is around 45 minutes to 1 hour in duration.
This week saw the 3rd video released in the US by Photography Giant Kelby Training featuring a look at the behind the scenes work of Commercial Car Photographer Tim Wallace. The video is part of a series of 4 that were recorded on location in the US late last year and they have been receiving excellent feedback as photographers and keen amateurs around the World follow the series on Kelby Training.
The class features photographer Tim Wallace as he demonstrates how to both approach and work with shooting car using nothing more than one camera, one lens and just making use of the available light around us inside a warehouse setting in Tampa Florida. The class has received great reviews already and is the 3rd of 4 that will be presented by Kelby over the coming months with the first class already starting to receive rave reviews all over the Internet communities.
Just some of the feedback being received in the first day from relaese
Renier Welgemoed – Austrailia
“Hi Tim,
I love your classes on Kelby Training and your work on your web site, you make it look so easy, but I guess with lots of practice everything gets a little bit easier.”
T. Quinn – US
“My word…another winner Mr. Wallace. Minimal equipment with maximum output. For the car nut like me this is so great to learn and think about seeing in the camera rather than in Photoshop. With that being said, cannot wait for the 4th class on photoshop to see what you can do”
M. Azzahrani – Dubai
“Dear Lord! This guy is TOO good. I took photos with my dusty old “Suzuki Swift” following these instructors with only one soft box and it turned out amazing, mean and monster looking ride!”
J. Mold – US
“I just wanted to say that I have been following Tim’s awesome work for sometime. I’m trying to break into commercial photography and couldn’t believe my luck when I saw that Tim was featuring as one of your pro instructors. The timing couldn’t have been better as I have a commercial shoot for a luxury car dealership in a few weeks. I am fairly comfortable with off camera lighting, but Tim’s attention to detail, the way he teaches and makes you feel like you’re having a 1-2-1 session on location with him s fantastic. I’ve learnt so much from this series that I know I’ll be taking my vehicle photography to the next level. I have learnt so much from the first 3 courses he has done that I really look forward to seeing more of him on Kelby Training.”
W. Jones – England
“To the folks at Kelby Training and Tim Wallace, thanks so much! I have enjoyed and learned so much from Tim’s series so far. I am a car enthusiast and have always wanted to learn how to improve my photographs of cars. This course has helped significantly.
Tim thanks so much for taking the time, I really enjoy your approach to photography and find your creativity very inspirational! Keep it up.”
J. Santiago – Spain
“Wallace did it again!!!! His simple approach yet powerful results just amazes me. What I liked best was the simple setup and equipment to obtain quality results. Really like it…”

The Scaglietti may well be the dream car that offers just about the perfect combination of speed, luxury and safety, the Ferrari 613 Scaglietti definitely sets roads on fire and in this latest image from commercial car photographer Tim Wallace for our UK Ferrari client we can see this impressive model represented on some photography showing the scene on the pass road leading down into Milan from the north.
Named after one of Ferrari’s legendary coachbuilder, Sergio Scaglietti, supercar Ferrari 612 Scaglietti’s styling is setting standards for others to emulate. The cockpit of this sports car can in fact be personalized further thanks to the Carrozzeria Scaglietti program.
Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a 12-cylinder sports car, which means increased power at your disposal. The light-alloy technology that has been incorporated in the body means that despite the size of the supercar there is still a saving of around 60 kilograms when compared to the other fast cars of this segment. The technology also allows for increased structural rigidity which converts into greater safety.
The racing car boasts o the latest in traction control system. In fact this is the first time that such an advanced traction control system is making an appearance in a Ferrari. With 5,748cc at your disposal the sports car leaves the competition way behind. At 7,250 rpm and 540 bhp you can accelerate to an exhilarating 100 km/h from standstill all in a matter of 4.2 seconds. Speed buffs can look forward to achieving a top speed of 315 km/h or 196 mph. Coupled with such a lively engine is the six-speed mechanical gear box. You have a choice of either manual or paddle shifts, the kind of which you find only in F-1 cares. The gear box incorporates the latest electro-hydraulic system. The system enables ultras-smooth and fast gear changes. This is yet another winning proposition among sports cars from the house of Ferrari.
This month we are very honoured to announce a feature that will appear in ‘Le Grand’ a Worldwide magazine that has its roots based in high end luxury living and life style. The magazine is published in both English and Chinese across the World and has an online version available for subscribers to the facility with many sections including not only prestige automotive but also high end fashion, jewellery, lifestyle products and yachting to name a few.
This week we have been working with one of our longest running clients Aston Martin and their Restorations Centre. Tim has been heavily connected to Aston for a number of years now and its a relationship that has seen both companies work together on many different aspects of the business from the brochure and lifestyle work that Tim shoots on a regular basis for the Aston to the restorations and engineering projects. Over the last few weeks Tim has been working closely with Aston to create some powerful images for the restorations and classic side of the business that not only demonstrate some of the work that goes on behind the scenes and Aston but also for use in global events such as the recent Essen Car Show in Germany that Aston attended using Tim’s work as a launch platform visually.
This week we would like to welcome Spellbound as a new client of AmbientLife.
The company is based in Surrey just outside London and has a firm history of both restoration and race preparation work on both classic and modern cars specialising in the race bred Ferrari models. Spellbound recently relocated to their new purpose built facility in Surrey and contact car and commercial photographer Tim Wallace to work with them on a project to re-establish their marketing and company profile within the sector with hard hitting photography and strong images for branding and advertising. Tim spent 3 days with the company earlier this week and the project is now completed and we look forward to working with Spellbound over the coming year to further enhance their profile and company image.
