2013 Aston Martin Book – Work Begins

Exciting news this week as work has now officially started on a proposed Aston Martin book. This has been a long term personal for car photographer Tim Wallace and has been under discussion for over 2 years now. It is hoped that the book will be completed and available by the end of 2012 for launch in early 2013 and it will be a hard back book with the aim to bring together the very best collection of Aston Martin photography very before made available to the public. Featuring all the Aston Martin models through the ages from the very early DB1 right through the the current range and the infamous One77 super Aston’s.

Tim “Its a great honour to be asked to do this book based around the range of Aston Martins through the years. Over the last few years I have become quite well known for my automotive car work and most of all probably for my Aston Martin work, for me photographing cars has never been about just showing the viewer what a model looks like but more about trying to capture and represent its form and character, cars to me have a personality, each one slightly different to the other, its having the ability to capture this passion and drama in a single image that is for me the gift of great car photography. We started work on the book earlier this week and as the chief designer said, ‘this is going to be a little like eating an elephant, one mouth full at a time…’
Over the last 5 years I have shot a huge amount of Aston’s and at last count that is near the 200 mark however as with any commercial work the photography and its style is dictated by the final requirement for its output so not ever piece of work has been shot in a dramatic style, for instance people very rarely think that all the parts and engineering side of the work has also to be covered, not to mention the ‘clinical’ work as I call it for marketing and brochures, so it is quite a massive task to ensure that I produce enough high quality work to fill a 300 page book. Also we are seeking to shoot all through the range and some models such as the infamous DBR2 are rare to say the least with only two in existence and with a price tag of £8m we have our work cut out for us but we are very lucky that as this is a joint venture with our client we have amazing access to some of the Worlds most beautiful and best kept Aston Martin secrets.
An amazing project and one that will I feel prove to be both demanding and ultimately very rewarding all at the same time.”

Aston Martin Photography V8 Vantage

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is seen by many as one of the entry level models of the current Aston range however it is also viewed as one of the most popular of the sports range with both V8 and V12 engines available in this chassis. Car Photographer Tim Wallace spent some time recently photographing the Vantage V8 for some marketing material for our UK client.

Aston 2013 Calendar Project Starts

For the last 5 years Car Photographer Tim Wallace has been involved in the annual Aston Calendar for our UK client. These have in recent years become a collectors item with sales of the Calendar reaching all across the globe from China to the US. Each year Tim starts work on this project as we enter the early part of the year to allow him to start to build up a body of work that not only inspires and captures the heart of the Aston Martin brand but also takes the work through the different seasons of the year.

The Calendar will be in design in August and we hope to have it ready for shipping Worldwide by the end of October. As with all the Aston Calendar work that Tim produces, it will be available to purchase as a limited edition signed print exclusively through our clients art site following the release of the 2013 edition.

Video Number 4 with Tim Wallace launches in the US with Kelby

Kelby in the US this week launched the 4th and final video in the series of films that car photographer Tim Wallace created in the US with them recently. This forth video looks in depth at the post production side of car photography and takes an image from class number 3 where Tim worked in nothing more than available light and looks at how we can adjust and improve that image to really bring it to life and add some drama and impact. Tim also looks at some further techniques and talks through how he not only approaches his post production work but also points out a few things along the way that photographers should be thinking about regarding their work all the way back to the point that they are taking the image with the final edit in mind.
All the classes have been receiving excellent feedback as photographers and keen amateurs around the World follow the series on Kelby Training.

Behind the scenes during the US filming

All of the filming took place in Ybor near Tampa Florida at a location known as ‘The Trolley Barn’, a location made famous in its use during the filming of ‘The Punisher’ a few years ago. October in Florida is still pretty hot and during our first week the weather was indeed very humid with the whole team really feeling that heat inside the barn. Our choice of cars over the term of the shooting was a Ford Mustang V6, a Dodge Challenger, and a Cadillac CTS.

3rd video class with Tim Wallace is launched in the US by Kelby

This week saw the 3rd video released in the US by Photography Giant Kelby Training featuring a look at the behind the scenes work of Commercial Car Photographer Tim Wallace. The video is part of a series of 4 that were recorded on location in the US late last year and they have been receiving excellent feedback as photographers and keen amateurs around the World follow the series on Kelby Training.

The class features photographer Tim Wallace as he demonstrates how to both approach and work with shooting car using nothing more than one camera, one lens and just making use of the available light around us inside a warehouse setting in Tampa Florida. This month we are very honoured to announce a feature that will appear in ‘Le Grand’ a Worldwide magazine that has its roots based in high end luxury living and life style. The magazine interviewed AmbientLife photographer Tim Wallace earlier this year to talk to him about his work with some the Worlds finest prestige car manufacturers such as Aston Martin and Bentley as well as take a look at how his work has impacted on this market Worldwide to create a desire that drives and influences his clients customers. The magazine is published in both English and Chinese across the World and has an online version available for subscribers to the facility with many sections including not only prestige automotive but also high end fashion, jewellery, lifestyle products and yachting to name a few.

Aston Martin Restorations

This week we have been working with one of our longest running clients Aston Martin and their Restorations Centre. Tim has been heavily connected to Aston for a number of years now and its a relationship that has seen both companies work together on many different aspects of the business from the brochure and lifestyle work that Tim shoots on a regular basis for the Aston to the restorations and engineering projects. Over the last few weeks Tim has been working closely with Aston to create some powerful images for the restorations and classic side of the business that not only demonstrate some of the work that goes on behind the scenes and Aston but also for use in global events such as the recent Essen Car Show in Germany that Aston attended using Tim’s work as a launch platform visually.

Welcome to new client Spellbound of London

This week we would like to welcome Spellbound as a new client of AmbientLife.
The company is based in Surrey just outside London and has a firm history of both restoration and race preparation work on both classic and modern cars specialising in the race bred Ferrari models. Spellbound recently relocated to their new purpose built facility in Surrey and contact car and commercial photographer Tim Wallace to work with them on a project to re-establish their marketing and company profile within the sector with hard hitting photography and strong images for branding and advertising. Tim spent 3 days with the company earlier this week and the project is now completed and we look forward to working with Spellbound over the coming year to further enhance their profile and company image.

Scott Kelby gets Inspired as US videos receive great reviews

Over the last few months the Kelby Group have been releasing two of the four video classes that commercial car photographer Tim Wallace recorded in the US recently. The video classes have been receiving some great reviews and are currently among the most watched class on the Kelby Worldwide Group. This week even saw the president of NAPP Scott Kelby get inspired himself to get out there with his own camera and try some of the techniques for himself…
