Beamish Morgan joins Ambient Life as a new client this week

This week we would like to welcome Beamish Morgan to our family of clients. Commercial Car Photographer Tim Wallace has been working with the company over the last month to prepare work for the launch of their new web presence as the company relocates its operation within the North East and becomes the first dealership in the UK to sell the much talked about new Morgan 3-wheeler, which has not been in production since the 1930s.

More than 600 orders for the revamped British-made roadster have already been placed by Morgan enthusiasts across the world, meaning that would-be owners could face a four year wait to take delivery of the latest must have motor.

A recent 30 minute test drive was all it took to convince US chat show host Jay Leno that he should add one of the £30,000 two-seaters to his collection of classic vehicles.

Hasselblad Behind the Scenes Video of Morgan 2010 Event

Hasselblad have just released a behind the scenes video shot by them at the recent Morgan Live Shoot Seminar that was staged by UK Car and Commercial Photographer Tim Wallace.

Following on from the success of the ‘live shoot’ seminars that Ambient Life photographer Tim Wallace holds each year with Land Rover were are very pleased to hold a very special Morgan Centenary event at the Companies Factory in Malvern UK.
Tickets were limited and the event was aimed at both photographers and car enthusiasts alike. This event was the first of its kind to be held at the Morgan Factory and was a very unique event as the Company celebrate 100 years of car building. Those attending were able able to take part in one of Tim’s famous ‘live shoots’ as he demonstrated equipment and lighting techniques as well as talking through some of his commercial work for Morgan. The event was also fully supported by Hasselblad who made available their flagship new high end H4 digital medium format system for guests to try out as well as professional lighting support from ProFoto and printing support from Epson on site.

After a morning of working with Tim on some detail work and lighting lunch was served in the main Morgan building as part of the event and guests also had the opportunity to go on a full guided tour of both the factory and the Morgan Museum on site.

We are currently in discussions with Morgan regarding the possibility of holding a second event later this year as the initial event was so popular that we now have a waiting list of those unable to book before the sell out. Any information on this will be made public by Ambient Life and Calumet when we have details and dates.

Tim – “The ‘live shoot’ events are always a challenge and there is a fantastic amount of organisation that goes into them months ahead of the actual day. I’d like to just take this opportunity pass on my thanks to Calumet for all their support and for sponsoring this event, I’ve been working with the Calumet crew for 3 years now and I think we have beaten down the barriers and with their help the seminar events that we stage each year seem to be becoming larger and more ground breaking than ever. A very special thanks to Frankie and Peter from Calumet for all their help, this event just would not have happened without their planning and support. Hasselblad support has been present on all my seminars including this Morgan day so thanks to Paul (nice shades) and Mark, also thanks to Paul and Chris from Profoto as well as the demon himself of the print, Dom from Epson. Morgan and more specifically the head of their design team Matthew Humphries gave the day his full support and was instrumental in ensuring that we had the correct cars in place and just as they were required so a huge thanks there and lastly I have to thank most of all the people that attended, this is what the event is all about and from the feedback that I’ve personally received so far I’m very happy that so many people found it both interesting, helpful and most of all ‘inspiring’. Thanks guys!”

Morgan Advertising and the Milan Design Show

This week saw some changes being made to the Morgan Motor Company website with the inclusion of new work shot by Ambient Life photographer Tim Wallace for our client Morgan. The material firstly shot for the Geneva Motor Show this year has gone on to be used in numerous marketing campaigns from European magazine advertising to a show in Milan, The Milan Design Week.

Milan design week is a showcase of the worlds most recent and ground breaking design and saw Morgan alongside other infamous automotive marques.

Not solely a car event, designers and companies specialising in furniture, interiors, modern art, fashion, technology, automotive design etc. all exhibit in showrooms in both districts around Milan centre and the centre itself. The event was set off by a huge print of an photograph taken by Photographer Tim Wallace as part of a recent shoot with our client Morgan and can be seen hanging proudly in some of the images below from the event.
With the enthusiastic support of Luigi Borghi, Morgan Design transformed the Borghi Automobili showroom promoting the brand to the worlds press and customers.

Much of the work that Tim has shot with Morgan this year can be seen on the new look company website for Morgan at http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/

Jason Barker in the November issue of EVO ” …if it’s a traditional Morgan you’ve set your heart on and you were wavering since V8 production ended, waver no longer because the V6 model is a worthy successor and a character in it’s own right.”

Autocar “Think Morgan and you think open roads, country lanes and picnics in fields. In that environment the Roadster makes sense. For one it’s very quick. Then there’s the sound. Get near the 6700 rpm cut-out and 24 valve V6 emits a glorious howl .”

Andrew Frankel in the Sunday Times “In the Roadster….by driving smoothly, thinking ahead and understanding the idiosyncrasies of your car, you can go faster, stay safer and at the journey’s end experience a sense of pride you’ll not find in a modern car that does it all for you….like any Morgan it is built entirely by hand in a factory that first started producing Morgans in 1910. Go there and it is like a time warp- a world of chisels, planes and lathes where cars are lovingly created by the hands of craftsmen, not expertly assembled by the mechanical arms of robots…..it made me feel good.It indulged and involved me in a way that few modern cars could, and while the fun it provided was slightly perverse and mildly masochistic, fun it undoubtedly was.”

Charles Morgan – “Morgan don’t want to be too big for our boots. We will always be a small player, one of the car world’s Davids but with the ability to make genuinely interesting coach-built cars”.

Victor Magazine – April 2010

Today sees the launch of the April Edition of the infamous Victor magazine by Hasselblad and features the work of UK based commercial photographer Tim Wallace.

Victor April 2010

Tim Wallace flew out to Hamburg as a guest of the World famous Victor magazine recently in Germany for two days to be interviewed by the magazine as he has been selected to be profiled for his work and creativity in the field of automotive photography. In keeping with the Hasselblad philosophy of developing products of outstanding quality that are ahead of their time, and celebrating the 100th anniversary of Victor Hasselblad’s birth, the magazine showcases the work of selected photographers from around the World and looks in depth at who they really are. Victor is regarded by the professional community as a both exciting and visually stimulating magazine in a large, professional format, and it has proved a huge success amongst top class photographers since its launch in the autumn of 2006. Recently in order to allow a wider audience to enjoy this exclusive publication in the future, Hasselblad announced that Victor would be launched in an online version – providing all the content and all the quality of the paper version, plus the advantages of an online publication with an interactive media facility the enables readers to search all articles and content from the current issue, access tutorials and behind the scenes videos as well as Victor Podcasts. In addition, those wishing to get closer to some of the world’s finest photography will be able to zoom in on image details thanks to the large format quality of the online PDFs that are made available to subscribers. The magazine is very much seen to be one of the most exclusive and desirable publications within the photography community and each year receives requests from over 3,000 professional photographers to have their work viewed and considered for publication.

Stephan Bittner

Stephan Bittner (Editor and Architect for Victor Magazine) – “Each year I see thousands of images, we are sent them on a daily basis quite literally. What I get excited about is when I see something new, something that I have not seen before, at Victor we really strive to bring new photography to our readers and of course also look at the photographer themselves, who they are, what makes them tick. I first saw Tim’s work late last year and had heard his name mentioned by several people for his automotive photography, when I saw it I knew we needed to get him over to Germany to find out more about the man behind these incredibly moody images. Even if you don’t like cars you can’t help being drawn into some of Tim’s work. I met with him along with our writing staff and I have to admit that there is a lot more behind him than I’d expected, it’s a great story and we will be aiming for release in June for our readers to enjoy. I would also point out that next time we meet I hope his baggage makes it, it’s a long story!…

Tim Wallace

” Tim- “Being invited over to Germany to be interviewed by Victor was something that came out of blue for me in truth and at first I pretty much thought that maybe they had the wrong guy…lol It’s not really something that you need to think about when an opportunity arises like that and of course I feel very humbled to be asked to be featured. My work is very important to me and anybody who has met me professionally as a client or as a guest at one of my seminars will tell you that once you get me started on the subject of passionate photography it’s hard to get me to stop! I went out to Hamburg for two days for the interview and really wished that I could have stayed a little longer if not simply to enjoy the city of Hamburg in winter, its a very beautiful place, especially at night when the lake is frozen and the local community take to the ice skating and enjoying the evening together as well as all the good eating and drinking to be had! I spent the day with Stephan and his writing team as we discussed my background, my approach, my visions for the future and where I saw my work in the years ahead. One of the hardest things I think in the day was trying to select the portfolio, I’m glad to say that we did manage this in the end and the feature will I feel reflect a good mix of my style which I’m very happy about. All in all the day seemed to go quite quickly and I have to mention that Victor has it’s own bar right next to the meeting rooms which is sheer genius, for a hot coffee of course! My time at Victor was rounded off with myself being invited to a group celebration meal with the guys from Victor and where we were joined by the MD’s of Hasselblad UK and Germany, Chris Russell Fish and Uwe Moebus. A great night and given that I’d been on the go since 2am with flights etc and my bags had been left in a different country to me I have to say that I didn’t notice that it was 3am by the time we bid each other farewell!”

80th Geneva Motorshow gets inspired…

This week saw the start of the prestigious and World renowned Geneva Motor Show. The show is the 80th International Motor Show from Geneva and is an international exhibition of the finest new automobiles. A vast array of car brands and new models are on show each year, many including concept cars and prototypes. This year we were very pleased to support Morgan in their launch of the new Sports Roadster and 4/4 Sports.

Ambient Life photographer Tim Wallace was approached by The Morgan Motor Company to shoot several of their models for both new brochure designs with the Aero 8, the 4/4 Sport and most exclusively the new Roadster Sport to provide high quality photography for its launch at the Geneva Show for its official launch.

Tim initially spent 3 days with Morgan to produce the work for the first shoot with Geneva firmly in mind. The shoot was split over work on site at the Morgan factory in Malvern as well as on locations in the South of England that even involved a very frosty morning in a cattle auction shed…

Over the coming months as work continues we will be sure to keep you up to date as this project develops and progresses with England’s only remaining privately owned car manufacturer as they continue to grow and go from strength to strength.

The International Geneva Motor Show (French: Salon International de l’Auto) is an annual auto show held in March in the Swiss city of Geneva. The show is hosted at the Geneva Palexpo, a convention centre located next to the Geneva Cointrin International Airport. The Salon is organised by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles, and is considered an important major international auto show.

First held in 1905, the Salon has hosted almost all major internal combustion engined models in the history of the automobile, along with benzene- and steam-powered cars from the beginning of the century. Exotic supercars often steal the spotlight during their debuts at the show. Prototypes, new equipment, technical breakthroughs, international partnerships, as well as political and social debates, have been announced at the exhibition. The show is regarded as a level playing field for the world’s automakers, aided by the fact Switzerland lacks an auto industry of its own.
