This week UK based commercial photographer Tim Wallace was in Zurich working with Light+Byte AG to hold both a Master Class in automotive lighting and also a Business Class.
The location shoot and lighting class was with a Porsche 911 S that was kindly supplied for the event by Porsche Switzerland.

Tim – “I would like to thank all those that attended both seminar events. The business class was a mammoth 7 hour session all about business and we had a truly inspired day with amazing feedback from all those that attended with 99% total on that, so that was very nice indeed. The following day we had a new group and took these guys on location to shoot the Porsche 911 S. It was a really great day with many opportunities to demonstrate different lighting techniques and how I use these in real life situations whilst shooting cars both inside and outside. I would like to thank Samuel from Light+Byte as always for helping to make all this happen and without him these events would simply not be the success that they are, also I would like to thank Timo and Daniel for all their assistance during the lighting seminar. Great team effort guys!”

Photographer Tim Wallace is the driving force and creative thinking behind Ambient Life. An award winning photographer his work is often described as both conceptual and dramatic.
Tim works internationally with many high clients across the globe such as Jaguar Land Rover, Peugeot, Mercedes and Morgan as well as shooting some of the worlds most iconic brands such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Ferrari in the UK and Europe to Dodge, Chevrolet and Mustang in the US.

TWENTY17 represents the first in a series of commercial portfolio books that we shall be launching across 2017
These books represent the content and style of the work of Manchester based Commercial Photographer Tim Wallace and allow clients, agents and art buyers to see our work, our style and also projects that we have been involved in. These cover all our operating area’s from automotive car work through to trucks, commercial vehicles, aviation, logistics, parts and engineering.

AmbientLife’s founder is commercial photographer Tim Wallace, based in Manchester he formed his company over 10 years ago with the aim to produce dramatic commercial photography for his clients that inspire their customers.He is also the humble recipient of many awards including British Commercial Advertising Photographer of the Year and UK Motor Industry Car Photographer of the Year.

Creativity is the fundamental key to any successful commercial photography when mixed with a strongly defined shooting style. Commercially it is very important for client to choose a photographer based not only on their obvious technical ability but most importantly on their ‘style’ of work, this has been the main driving force behind all successful photographers for over 100 years and one that is just as important to day as it ever was with the age of digital technology. True creativity still exists in the capture and control of light with your subject mixed with a strong creative vision of the world.

Zurich with Light + Byte AG Switzerland

Recently commercial car photographer Tim Wallace was in Zurich to deliver a ‘Master Class’ for Light + Byte AG in Zurich
The subject for the lighting based seminar was a Ferrari California and the event was extremely well received by all that attended.

Tim -“I was invited to deliver a Lighting Master Class in Zurich earlier in 2016. It was great to meet the people at Light + Byte AG in Zurich and there was a lot of interest in the seminar and my work so the day was very rewarding for both the attendees and myself. We had a brand new Ferrari California as our subject matter and the whole seminar was based in a local car studio in Zurich with us shooting on both the Hasslblad H5 and the new H6 using Broncolor lighting systems.
The seminar started with a presentation from myself about ‘light’ in general terms, the different types of light and how they all have their own unique properties, and it was very good to hear from some people that the actual talk on lighting taught them so much without them actually picking up a camera. I do think that light is the key to great photography and the people who attended the seminar were really great and it was my pleasure to spend my day with them. I would also like to say thank you to the team from Light + Byte AG in Zurich who were amazing and really helpful and supportive of the whole event, thank you guys!”

After all, he is a leading figure in the advertising industry, is well known for giving great speeches and has many fans. Expectations, therefore, were set pretty high – and they were not disappointed. The seminar turned out to be the absolute highlight of the year. What made it such a success was Tim’s great sense of humour and his honest, direct way of teaching a class. He just knows how to rivet an audience both with his stories and his practical demonstrations. He is never lost for words no matter the question and remains calm at all times. Even when the camera as well as the backup camera failed to work properly 15 minutes before the workshop Tim never broke a sweat and just fixed the problem. All of this meant that at the end of the seminar all of our customers went home with smiles on their faces. As for us at Light + Byte, we are already looking forward to the next time Tim comes to Zürich.

Out of Chicago 2016

Last week Car and Commercial Photographer Tim Wallace was invited to be a key speaker at the ‘Out of Chicago’ Conference.
The event attracts people from all over the USA and other worldwide countries and is a very popular three day event held at the Central University in downtown Chicago.

Tim – “This was my first time at OOC and also my first time in Chicago, the event itself is really great in the fact that it is very focused on what it offers and there is a real sense of community throughout the three days. I had a Pre Con seminar on business and also gave talks on what inspires me to drive forward with my own career as well as also hosting some smaller one hour sessions both on business and as part of a panel group on how photographers can make money from their work in the current markets. As part of my schedule I also gave a special live shoot seminar at a luxury car dealership in downtown Chicago with a McLaren to walk a select group of people through lighting and shooting automotive work in some situations that are not always ideal and how to cope with that. The whole;e event was a huge success and the feedback I have received since has been really great to see. Its good to know that these events both inspire and help people both in their own businesses as well as with their photography. I am looking forward to being part of future events both in Chicago and also in other area’s where the event will be held such as New York and Maine.”

This is a Studio based class at the infamous Junction 11 Studios near Banbury, the home of many high end Pro car shoots for such people as Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover and is a rare chance to spend a day working within such a studio with one of the worlds leading car photographers. You will be shooting and starting the process from scratch as Tim walks you through each step. You will be look looking at shape, form and light and how they relate to each other, the issues that we are faced with when lighting a multi-angled reflective surface at a professional level. Working with multiple lights we will learn more of how light has a direct impact on what transposes through to our final image. During this studio shoot day we will also be looking at different techniques that we can deploy to get a range of lighting effects using continuous lighting for our car photography and also how these are very different to working with traditional strobes.

Fujiholics announce an exciting and unique class from commercial photographer Tim Wallace looking at creative and style based retouching. Tim has only ever spoken twice on this subject in 10 years and on both occasions that was at seminars that he gives on the USA so we are really excited that he has agreed to offer this class here in the UK. The class covers many different aspects of retouching from basic to more advanced so that there is something to learn for everybody no matter what their level of knowledge. They say ‘lighting’ is everything in photography and is without any doubt one of the most crucial elements to crafting and great image.
In this class Tim Wallace, a well respected and renowned commercial photographer who has shot everything from engineering parts, to huge planes and supercars, to lifestyle and watches will be talking about light. This class is firmly aimed at those that perhaps are not totally sure of how to achieve the images that they practising shooting as well as those that would just like some good advice on which equipment could be best for them for what they would like to shoot. The class will cover a whole broad range of subjects from equipment to how we can work with light and make it do what we want it to do so that we can create great images and build up on those lessons learned and grow as photographers.
All levels are welcome and no question is too silly in this class that Tim has specifically put together so that he can help share his knowledge of light and build an awareness for those attending that if we really start to ‘understand’ light then we often find that lighting, good lighting, is not really as difficult as we may have first thought.
During the class there will be a talk through many different aspects and elements to equipment and light, Tim will be sharing his views and advice as well as offering some valuable tips, as well as offering some demonstrations of lighting in the studio that we have available new to where the class will be held.
If you are seeking help with lighting and would like to understand more about how to learn to light better and progress your work then this is the class for you no matter what subjects you shoot. Tim is a well known photographer across the world for his high end commercial work, most predominately within the automotive car industry, in this class he will be approaching the very key subject of lighting. The course is not specific to any style or type of work but is very much a class for those attending to have an opportunity to get a better understanding of light and now we can work with it in many ways moving forward from basics. Tim has shot everything from engineering parts, to huge planes and supercars, to lifestyle and watches across his career and working within the commercial world of advertising and campaign photography he is very aware of the value of good lighting and the importance of understanding how to create light to match our requirement.
The event will take place in studio giving those attending not only a chance to see hands on how lighting can effect things drastically but also will give those attending the opportunity to also shoot their own images and experiment from the lessons learned.
Tim is very well known for his creativity and open approach with a unique strong style of work and creative approach that inspires not only his clients but also their customers, something that was reflected recently when he was awarded, ‘International Commercial Advertising Photographer of the Year’ and ‘Car Photographer of the Year’ at the Industry Awards. He is today regarded as a leading automotive photographer within the industry and a renowned creative who is extremely passionate about the ‘craft’ of photography.

Out of Chicago Event – Summer 2016 now live

Today we are pleased to announce the launch of the Out Of Chicago website ready for the event this summer in Chicago USA where Commercial Automotive Car Photographer Tim Wallace will be giving seminars. talks and also conducting live shoots as part of the event.
This will be Tim’s first year at the event after being invited to take part a few months ago whilst giving talks on the east side of the US in Las Vegas.

Fujiholics announce ‘Live Shoot’ Seminar in UK for April 18th 2016

During 2016 Commercial Automotive Car Photographer Tim Wallace will be giving a new exciting series of Seminars through Fujiholics.
Today saw the first of these being announced with a ‘Live Shoot’ workshop being announced that will take place on April 18th at the Junction 11 Studios in Banbury UK

Tim –“I am very well known for giving seminars in Europe and the US but over recent years have not being holding very many in the UK, this year we have addressed that with a series of new and exciting workshops and classes that are all to take place within the UK for photographers of all varying levels of ability and interest. The first of these to be announced today is a studio based live shoot that I will be holding at Juntion 11 Studios outside Banbury in England. This is my favourite studio in the UK to use for my own professional commercial work and is without doubt one of the very best and well equipped studios that the UK has to offer. During this event I will be walking those attending through the lighting involved in a typical shoot at the studio that I would conduct and giving those attending the chance to work with me and also capture some amazing photography of their own, and there will be cake!”

Car photography is, as most that have tried it will testify, complex in its nature at time with many lighting issues to overcome along the journey with light falling onto highly reflective curved surfaces. The work of Tim Wallace is globally recognised to be not only of a highly creative style and flair but also Tim is very well known for achieving much of his photography ‘in camera’ with the clever and adoptive use of lighting.

This is a Studio based class at the infamous Junction 11 Studios near Banbury, the home of many high end Pro car shoots for such people as Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover and is a rare chance to spend a day working within such a studio with one of the worlds leading car photographers. You will be shooting and starting the process from scratch as Tim walks you through each step. You will be look looking at shape, form and light and how they relate to each other, the issues that we are faced with when lighting a multi-angled reflective surface at a professional level. Working with multiple lights we will learn more of how light has a direct impact on what transposes through to our final image. During this studio shoot day we will also be looking at different techniques that we can deploy to get a range of lighting effects using continuous lighting for our car photography and also how these are very different to working with traditional strobes.

During this seminar Tim will be talking through and demonstarting continous lighting as an introduction, how it works, how he applies that and how we can use such lighting for creating some truly great professional standard images. Tim will also be demonstrating and talking through light modifiers, strobe flash for such work as detail shots and what can be achieved with these, as well as how to use them to best affect and creatively regardless of you having several lights at your disposal or just one.

This seminar is car based but the lessons learned and demonstrated in this session can be applied to shooting a wide range of subjects such as people and products.
This class is both and is aimed at people who would like to learn a little about lighting progressing from hand held flash guns to those that have experience in working with professional studio strobe and wish to take their lighting further.

Gulf Photo Plus 2016 in Dubai

Some months ago photographer Tim Wallace was approached by the organisers of Gulf Photo Plus, a premium photographic event that is held in Dubai each year, and asked to participate in the 2016 event. We are very happy to announce that Tim has agreed to take part in this GPP 2016 event in beautiful Dubai and will be there as one of the main instructors in February 2016 between the 5th and the 12th where he will be running two separate two day intense courses on car photography.

The first is aimed at the confident beginner and will take place with attendees shooting alongside Tim in a studio for one day and then on occasion for a day. The second course is also a two day course but this time based on working with intermediate and professional level photographers, again this will be one day in the studio and then a day separately on location.
Tim will also be doing other talks whilst there in Dubai including his ‘Inspired Business’ seminar.

We look forward to what we strongly believe will be an amazing one week event with many great photographers attending to create some amazing captures and learn some new techniques.
